The connection created between my mentee and I happened within the first meeting. We both felt enthusiastic about Agile and Scrum even though one of us was a Project Manager and the other a Scrum Master. However, this did not stop us from sharing and learning from each other.
My mentee wanted to learn more about a day in the life of a Scrum Master as she was looking for a job more aligned with her career goals and training. The job search was frustrating as many job descriptions did not align with interview questions or the description of the job given during the interview. We were able to walk through the day-to-day roles and responsibilities of my role which also led to several discussions about my mentees’ job. We talked through several scenarios and shared thoughts on how we would manage different things. My mentee shared her experience with a mock project using Agile/Scrum and how she learned various aspects of the methodology and framework. We were able to talk through interview questions and she asked for advice on how I would answer questions related to the Scrum Master role. My mentee found a new job more aligned to her career goals and training. She was ecstatic, and the look on her face was pure joy when she talked about it.
The Monthly Mentor Power Hour created a space for mentors to exchange ideas, thoughts and get advice on scenarios not just with our mentees but in the workplace as well. We experienced and learned from several speakers on relevant topics and enjoyed learning with women around the world. (Note: Tiffany joined us as a guest speaker for one of our Power Hours! You can read more about that here!)
